A Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday sentenced a 42-year-old Kenyan, Samira Odhiambo, to four years imprisonment over cocaine trafficking.

The accused was arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Nov. 30, on a one-count charge bordering on the offence.

She pleaded guilty to the charge, and the trial judge, Justice Saliu Saidu, had ordered that she should be remanded in the custody of the NDLEA.

The judge, following the guilty plea, had also adjourned the case for a review of facts and sentencing.

Delivering judgment on Friday, Saidu convicted the accused as charged.

“The accused person is found guilty as charged and is hereby convicted.

“The accused is accordingly sentenced to four years imprisonment, beginning from the date of judgment,” he said

The court also ordered the exhibit to be destroyed by the NDLEA within 30 days of judgment.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Fingere Dinneys, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 12.

He said that the accused was arrested at the arrival hall of the Murtala Mohammed Airport, during the inward clearance of passengers.

According to the prosecutor, about 3.5kg of cocaine was recovered from the accused during the screening of passengers.

The prosecutor tendered several documents and the drug substance as exhibits.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of section 11(a) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004. (NAN)
