This is the moment a stampede injured at least 30 football fans after firecrackers sparked a panic in Nice two years after it suffered a terror attack.

The rush occurred in moments before the final whistle of France's victory over Belgium at the World Cup semi-finals in St Petersburg, Russia.

Nice remains on edge after an Islamist killed 86 people in the city on the French Riviera in 2016.

He used a refrigerator truck to mow down victims during the bloody attack on Bastille Day.

'There was a crowd surge after firecrackers were detonated,' he said. 'Most of the injuries are glass cuts and bruising picked up when people fell.'

There were at least 1,000 fans in the area when the surge happened in a spot cordoned off for fans to watch the game. 

Local media ran images of shaken onlookers standing around overturned tables and chairs, the ground littered with broken glass. 

It is unclear whether those pictures were from the scene in Nice as fans took to the streets in Paris and Marseilles to celebrate the win. 

France will play the winners of tonight's match between Croatia and England in the finals on Sunday.

In Marseilles, fans were spotted shaking a car as it drove past jubilant crowds partying in the street.
