Heroes of the London Bridge terror attack were among those who received honours at Buckingham Palace today.

Ignacio Echeverria, 39, was posthumously given The George Medal for 'confronting armed terrorists in order to protect others at London Bridge' in a ceremony.

Eight people were killed and nearly 50 injured as terrorists mowed people down with a car and went on a stabbing rampage before they were shot dead by police.

Mr Echeverria was killed as he tried to help a woman being attacker. He became known as a 'skateboard hero' as he tried to fight off terrorists using his skateboard.

The banker's father Joaquin Echeverria Alonso and mother Maria Miralles De Imperial Hornedo collected the award on his behalf following the atrocity on June 3, 2017.

Three police officers who responded to the terror attack also collected awards.

PC Wayne Marques, who was stabbed repeatedly as he fought off terrorists at London Bridge, was awarded the George Medal alongside Metropolitan Police officer, Charles Guenigault.

Constable Leon McLeod of the British Transport Police received the Queen's Gallantry Medal.

The officers were joined by a number of public figures also receiving honours.

Journalist Kate Adie, 73, was awarded a CBE for her services to media.

University Challenge presenter Bamber Gascoigne, 83, received a CBE for his services to the arts. 

TV presenter Stacey Dooley, 31, was made MBE for her services to broadcasting.
